Agreement between Employer and Resident Governess

THIS AGREEMENT is made the . . . . . . . . . . day of . . . . . . . . , 20 . . . . ., BETWEEN A. B., aged about . . . . . . . years, son of . . . . . . . . . . . . . ., resident of . . . . . . . . . . ., (hereinafter called the ‘‘Employer’’) of the one part, AND C. D., aged about . . . . . . . . . . . . years, daughter/wife of . . . . . . . . . ., resident of. . . . . . . . . ., (hereinafter called the ‘‘Governess’’) of the other part AND WITNESSETH AS FOLLOWS:

1. That the Employer will employ, and the Governess shall serve the Employer for the purposes of imparting such education, as the School where the children of the Employer are studying shall require, and for the purpose of otherwise looking after the said children with a view to imparting such other accomplishments as children in the station of the Employer usually receive and require.

2. That the Governess shall take sole charge of the said children, two in number, namely, . . . . . . . . . . and . . . . . . . . . ., aged . . . . . . . . . . and . . . . . . . . . years, respectively and shall be responsible for their safety during such hours as the said children are not at their respective schools.

3. That the Governess shall in consideration of her said services be paid an annual sum of Rs . . . . . . . . . . . . . payable in monthly instalments, at the rate of Rs . . . . . . . . . . That the Governess shall be given boarding and lodging with the Employer and shall have to accompany him along with the children at any place where the Employer may for the time being be staying with his children.

4. That the Governess shall be entitled to such leave as may be sanctioned by the Employer on an application submitted by her to him, which leave shall not exceed on an aggregate, one month during the year on account of sickness and one month during the year as privilege leave.

5. That the Governess shall duly perform the duties aforesaid during this engagement to the best of her ability and conform in all respects to the reasonable requirements of the Employer and his wife and the rules and regulations of his establishment.

6. That either party shall have the option to terminate this agreement by giving the other party one month’s notice. That the Employer shall, however, have the option to terminate the services of the Governess without any notice should she wilfully neglect the children and their safety of education be jeopardised.
