Introduction

Date rape could be described as a sexual activity, which is non-consensual in nature and takes place between two people, who are known to each other. It may be planned or spontaneous. One of them is rapist and the other one is the victim. In the modern life style of generation, date rape is increasing at a very fast level. The main purpose of this paper is to explain about the date rape, which is also known as hidden crime in the society and to know factors responsible for this. This also suggests how to save oneself from date rape. There are many factors, which are contributing to this in different ways directly as well as indirectly. The only cure of this problem is to avoid the use of alcohol and drugs. There are many more factors, which contribute to date rape. These include media, movies, news, environment, etc. (Date Rape, 2008).

There are many factors, which are responsible for date rape in many ways. Some factors are related to the visual presentation such as, media, news related to the sex, movies, attractive videos, etc. These are the most popular factors, which drive the date rape by showing rocking videos and false claims. Extra ordinary pictures, photographs and videos related to the sex and vulgarity also contribute to create an excitement among youth about the sex and similar activities (Date Rape, 2008).

Due to the development of society and constant exposure to the media, computer games, fashion industry, etc. violence has become a regular activity in the society or our daily life. Some of the factors are related to psychological context of the date rape such as use of alcohol, drugs, etc. Drugs of various categories like ghb, ketamine, midazolam, temazepam, etc. are used to neutralize the victim and alcohol of different category also plays an important role in date rape (Date Rape, 2008).

Recommendations to Prevent this Activity

In order to stop such types of criminal activities in the society, it is essential to develop an awareness program. Media channels should not show such kind of news and scenes openly and government should put a ban on these types of exposures in the movies and daily soap serials. A man should not force himself on a woman to do sex with him. Schools and universities should start such kind of programs in which the teacher could give the students knowledge about date rape and prevention from these hidden crimes. They should give the knowledge to the youths that by avoiding the use of drugs and alcohol, they should contribute their important part in the prevention of this hidden crime (Date Rape, 2008).

Conclusion

Nowadays, date rape is increasing at a vast level in the society and especially among the college going students and resulting in the death of many victims. So, it should be noted that awareness is a must among the people from the view point of this situation and it is possible only when people are well educated and informed so that they come to know about the ill effects of it. If this happens, the life of many people can be saved. Use of drugs and alcohols should be avoided. People should take some corrective actions on it and students should be taught about the ill effects of it so that they can be saved from it.
