FIRE SAFETY LAW

Fire Safety law [FS law] in the UK applies to any place (with a few exceptions, most notably domestic premises) and requires duty holders to ensure the safety of people in respect of harm caused by fire.  The people responsible for that safety include:

  • employers, persons who have control of premises in which any undertaking takes place, and owners; and
  • people with control of premises (to any extent) to the extent of their obligation, together with contractors and tenants (in relation to maintenance, repair or safety of premises)).

If you operate, occupy, or have control of applicable premises you are likely to have responsibility for fire safety.  Your responsibility will be in proportion to your level of control; the more control you have, the greater your responsibility.  More than one person can have fire safety responsibilities and are required to co-operate with each other and co-ordinate their fire safety measures. Employers always retain responsibility for the safety of employees.

If your role in relation to any premises is described above, you are likely to have to comply with Fire Safety law and are required to:

  1. assess fire safety risks;
  2. put in place measures to reduce the risk of fire; and
  3. put in place measures to protect people from harm caused by fire.

If this is you, we recommend that you record what has been done / will be done to keep people safe in case of fire and any persons (or group of people) identified as being especially at risk, together with your fire safety arrangements**.  This information must be recorded if:

  • you employ 5 or more employees;
  • a licence is in force in relation to the premises; or
  • an alterations notice (requiring it) is in force.

Fire and Rescue Authorities enforce FS law in most places to which that law applies.

To coordinate the enforcement of FS law and to encourage consistency, The Chief Fire Officers Association (CFOA) established the Business Safety Group (BSG).  The group has created guides and example policy templates for Fire and Rescue Authorities to use and (where necessary) adapt.  These have been checked for legal content (in England and Wales) and are available to be freely downloaded and adapted for local use.

Businesses and consumers can save money when they buy fire extinguishers in India. They are a necessary solution for emergencies in the event of a fire caused by electrical short, chemical spill, or spark. They reduce flame and smoke damage and help prevent a catastrophe. Not only do people buy a fire extinguisher in India to help save lives, but also to save a home or business. There are many accidental causes to fires and in some cases seem that it may not have been easily avoidable.

A common accidental cause of a fire is improperly disposing a cigarette or dousing a candle. Another common accident is an unattended kitchen while food is being cooked. Food can burn and cause a fire. Some cooking use oils and that can catch on fire causing a serious damage. Because oil is lighter than water, a bucket of water on an oil fire is more likely to spread the flame and cause more damage rather than to put out the fire.

When looking to buy fire extinguisher in India it is important to make sure the right one is selected for what it will be used for. There are special fire extinguishers that are for electrical, chemical, oil, and other types of fires. There are some fire extinguishers that cost more than others, but that is due to the type of fire extinguisher it is for. Buying the cheapest fire extinguisher is not the best option. A kitchen fire extinguisher, for example, must be designed to handle fires fueled by grease and oil.

An extinguisher in a manufacturing plant must be designed either for electrical fires or chemical fires depending on what would be at highest risk at the manufacturing plant. The extinguisher are designated by letters A, B, and C. The Class A extinguisher will put out fires that are fueled by paper, wood, rubber, cloth, and most plastics. The Class B extinguisher is designed to extinguish fires caused by flammable liquids like oil, gas, and grease. Electrical fires are put out with Class C extinguishers.

To buy a fire extinguisher in India, not only is the class designation important, but also how many to have on site. Certain regulations require that a fire extinguisher be a certain distance from a point of risk and where people can access it. The fire extinguisher is designed to be suitable for a particualer room. For example a kitchen may use a combination B-C extinguisher for grease fires on that is fueled by gas stoves. There are combination extinguishers that fit a particular environment. Another example is an A-C fire extinguisher to extinguish a wooden wall fire with electrical wiring next to curtains. It is important to buy fire extinguisher in India that will be able to do the job. It is advisable that a consultant assist in the selection of a fire extinguisher. The consultant will be able to ask the relevant questions that are associated with possible burning elements, surrounding environment, and facility the extinguisher will be housed in.

The most important reason to buy a fire extinguisher in India is to save lives. That is more important than saving a building, however that is a second matter of concern. The primary use of the fire extinguisher is to create a path of exit out of a building. The fire extinguisher may need to be larger to have enough chemicals if the path of exit is of significant distance. The type of extinguisher will suit either marine, industrial, automotive, and household requirements and be used to preserve life in the event of an emergency. The rating and size of the extinguisher will determine its effectiveness. Talk to a pro to buy welding machine online in India as well as price line of other India.
